Another of the alternative routes that we can do in just one day is the so-called 7 LAGUNAS (FULL DAY). In this mystical tour, you will be in contact with nature at the foot of our snow-capped AUSANGATE (6374m), where we can also enjoy a wide variety of flora and fauna. A route dedicated to nature lovers.
- Itinerary
- 5:30 AM - Pick-Up from Hotel in Cusco: You will be picked up early from your hotel in Cusco. From there, we will embark on a scenic drive to the base of Mount Ausangate, one of the highest snow-capped peaks in the region (6374 meters), where the 7 Lagunas are located. The journey will take approximately 3-4 hours, offering you stunning views of the Andes.
- 9:00 AM - Arrival at the 7 Lagunas: Upon arrival, your professional English-Spanish speaking guide will provide you with an overview of the area, explaining the significance of the 7 Lagunas and its surrounding landscapes, flora, and fauna. This mystical route is ideal for nature lovers and offers an opportunity to connect with the pristine environment.
- 9:30 AM - Hike Around the 7 Lagunas:
- Guided Exploration: Begin your hike around the 7 Lagunas, a series of shimmering lakes nestled at the foot of Mount Ausangate. During the hike, your guide will explain the unique ecosystem of the area and how the local wildlife, including native birds and plants, thrives in this high-altitude environment.
- Flora and Fauna: You will encounter a variety of flora and fauna, including llamas and alpacas, and may even see Andean foxes or condors soaring above the lakes.
- Lake Visits: You’ll visit each of the seven lakes, each offering stunning views and photo opportunities.
- 12:00 PM - Lunch in the Wilderness: Enjoy a packed lunch in the midst of nature, where you can relax and take in the serene surroundings. The lunch typically features local, traditional Peruvian dishes, giving you a taste of the region’s culinary heritage.
- 1:00 PM - Continue Exploring the 7 Lagunas:
- Hiking and Nature Walks: Continue exploring the remaining lakes, each more beautiful than the last. The surrounding mountains and glaciers provide a breathtaking backdrop for your journey, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the Ausangate region.
- 3:00 PM - Optional Horseback Ride: If you’d like to experience the terrain from a different perspective, an optional horseback ride is available for an additional cost. This is a great way to enjoy the landscape in a more leisurely manner.
- 4:00 PM - Return Journey to Cusco: After spending several hours exploring the 7 Lagunas, you’ll start your journey back to Cusco. Relax and enjoy the scenic drive as you head back to the city, with stunning views of the Andes along the way.
- 7:00 PM - Arrival in Cusco: Arrive back in Cusco, where you’ll be dropped off at your hotel, marking the end of this full-day adventure to the 7 Lagunas.

- A light day pack with a change of clothes for the whole period of the trek prepare for a vast range of temperatures
- Rain gear (jacket and pants if available) or rain poncho. Plastic ponchos can be bought for about $1 in Cusco.
- Resistant footwear, waterproof trekking boots recommended. Extra socks are a must.
- Sandals are also good to give your feet a chance to breathe in the evenings if you wish to carry them.
- Warm clothes, including jacket, sweatshirt, gloves, scarf and a beanie. Thermal clothing is also
- recommended, especially for sleeping. This is a particularly cold trek, you should make sure you have a
- lot of very warm clothes.
- Sleeping bag (we can hire you one)
- Torch/ Flashlight and spare batteries
- Camera, batteries (batteries consume more quickly under cold conditions)
- Hat or cap to protect you from the sun, rain and cold
- Sun block
- After-sun cream or hydrating cream for face and body
- Toilet paper, pack in & pack out
- Snacks: biscuits, energy bars, chocolate, raw fruits, muesli, etc.
- Non-disposable canteen (Nalgene type) and water for the first morning
- We advise you to bring water sterilizing tablets in case you collect water from streams.
- Your own medical kit with any special medications that you might require, paracetamol, second skin for blisters etc.
- Small towel
- Bathers/swimsuit (if you intend on swimming in hot springs)
- Cash-sufficient for snacks, tips and souvenirs.
- Original passport & ISIC (International Student Identity Card) if you have one.
