Salkantay Trek Express 4 Days

The Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu is frequently regarded as the greatest option to the Inca Trail. The high-altitude journey begins in the snow-capped Andes and ends in the cloud forests at Machu Picchu. The Salkantay Trall to Machu Picchu was named one of the greatest 25 hikes in the world by National Geographic Travel Magazine. The route provides a little bit of everything, with jaw-dropping views at every bend. The adventure starts high in the Andes. It takes you through various small settlements before dropping you off in the tropical zone. Salkantay Pass, at 4600 meters above sea level, is the highest point of the Salkantay Trekking route. To avoid altitude sickness, we strongly advise you to spend a few days in Cusco before to the hike.

Day 1: Cusco - Mollepata - Soraypampa

Distance: Approx. 14 km (6-7 hours)
Altitude: Start: 3200m, End: 3850m
Difficulty: Moderate

Early Morning: Departure from Cusco around 6:00 AM, traveling by tourist transport to Mollepata (about 2.5 hours).
Arrival at Mollepata: After a quick break, head to Challacancha (45-minute drive).
Trek Begins: From Challacancha, start your hike towards Soraypampa (13 km).
Lunch: Enjoy a packed lunch on the trail.
Arrival at Soraypampa: Settle into your rustic cabin accommodations with 13 cm thick mattresses.
Dinner & Overnight: A warm dinner awaits at the camp, followed by a good night’s rest under the starry sky.

Day 2: Soraypampa - Salkantay Pass - Chaullay

Distance: Approx. 22 km (10-12 hours)
Altitude: Start: 3850m, Salkantay Pass: 4650m, End: 2900m
Difficulty: Hard

Early Morning: Begin early with breakfast before trekking to the Salkantay Pass (4650m), the highest point of the trek.
Lunch: Enjoy a packed lunch at the Salkantay Pass with breathtaking panoramic views of snow-capped peaks and alpine valleys.
Descent to Chaullay: Descend through high-altitude terrain and forests, finally arriving in Chaullay (2900m).
Arrival at Chaullay: Settle in with spacious rooms that offer personal beds for a good night's sleep.
Dinner & Overnight: Dinner at the camp and rest for the night.

Day 3: Chaullay - Santa Teresa - Aguas Calientes

Distance: Approx. 18 km (6-7 hours)
Altitude: Start: 2900m, End: 2000m
Difficulty: Moderate

Morning: After breakfast, continue trekking through the tropical zone, passing through beautiful cloud forests and the Santa Teresa area.
Lunch: Enjoy a lunch stop in Santa Teresa, resting and recharging for the rest of the journey.
Hydroelectric Station: Ride from Santa Teresa to the Hydroelectric Station, then walk along the train tracks to Aguas Calientes.
Arrival in Aguas Calientes: Check into your basic hostel in Aguas Calientes with hot showers and private bathrooms. If time allows, explore the town or relax.
Dinner & Overnight: Enjoy a dinner at a local restaurant and get a briefing for your visit to Machu Picchu the next day.

Day 4: Machu Picchu - Return to Aguas Calientes and Cusco

Distance: Approx. 5 km (3-4 hours)
Altitude: Machu Picchu: 2400m
Difficulty: Moderate

Early Morning: Take the 5:00 AM bus from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu. Explore the incredible ruins with your knowledgeable guide, who will explain the fascinating history and significance of the site.
Lunch: After your Machu Picchu visit, enjoy lunch in Aguas Calientes.
Optional Hike: If you’ve pre-booked tickets, you can hike up to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain for some stunning views (extra cost).
Return to Aguas Calientes: Spend the afternoon in Aguas Calientes or rest before the train ride.
Train to Ollantaytambo: Board the Expedition Train at 18:20, heading back to Ollantaytambo.
Transfer to Cusco: Upon arrival in Ollantaytambo, transfer by tourist transport to Cusco, where you will arrive in the late evening.
