A full-day visit to the famous suspension bridge, which is also the only remaining Inca bridge, is one of the must do activities in Cusco. In the settlement of Keshwa Chaca, there is a grass rope bridge known as Q’eswachaka (pronounced Keshwa Chaca). Qeswa, which means braid, and Chaka, which means bridge, are the two Quechua words that make up the name.
During the Inca civilisation, several roads were built to promote communication inside the enormous Inca empire. Qhapaq Nan was the most well-known (the Great Inca Road). It is approximately 60,000 kilometers long. Suspension bridges were built in areas where topographical limits prevented the construction of Inca Roads.
The Qeswachaka Inca Bridge is located south of Cusco. It has a length of 33 meters and a width of 1.20 meters. The Apurimac River is 15 meters below the bridge, which is 15 meters above the river. Residents from the communities of Huinchiri Chaupibanda, Choccayhua, and Ccolana Queue restore the bridge every year.
It’s a four-day event that’s been acknowledged by prestigious networks like NOVA and the BBC. In 2009, the Peruvian government classified the Q’eswachaka bridge as a cultural historic monument.
Please take the time to go over our Trip Advisor reviews.
In the morning, we will pick you up from your respective hotels at 4:00 am, and then depart to the tourist restaurant in Cusipata (2 hours), where we will have breakfast included. Then we will take the same route and travel for 25 minutes, where we will find the first lagoon (POMACANCHIS). We will have a short stop for explanation and then continue to the next lagoon (ACOPIA). You will have time to take photos and listen to the explanation of the guide. The third lagoon, ASNAQOCHA, is located in a very nice place for photos and among fresh air. Finally, we will reach the PAMPA MARCA lagoon. After the visit to the circuit of the 4 lagoons, we will pass small historic towns (Túpac Amaru II) and we will arrive at the caves of Q’arañahui – a cave that was formed naturally near the Q’ewe district. The place is impressive, such as the depth of the cave. Our journey will continue to the Inca bridge of Q’uesWachaKa, where we will relive the Inca culture and the guide will give us the explanation of why it is made of Ichu.
After seeing a lot of nature and culture, we will return to our base camp for a buffet lunch and then return to Cusco (approx … 5:00 pm).
